Research from a price comparison website has shown that Brits who have never cruised before have avoided the idea because they feel it costs too much and they are not sure whether ‘life on the ocean wave’ will suit them. At least 58% of those people surveyed believed that cruises were too expensive and 36% were concerned that the ships would be like ‘floating holiday camps’. Another 15% believed that cruise holidays were for ‘posh’ people.
The survey has also shown that the views of the respondents changed as soon as they experienced cruise holidays for themselves. Nine out of ten cruisers questioned would recommend the holiday to a friend while two-thirds said that the great food on-board was one of their favourite parts of the cruising experience. First time cruisers say that the greatest appeal of ocean cruise holidays is that you get to see many destinations in one trip but only have to pack once. They also like the idea of waking up in a new place each day which is virtually impossible if travelling by land.
Contrary to popular opinion, cruise holidays are not just for the older generation, as nearly 60% of 18-35 year olds who had been on river cruises or mini cruises said that they were impressed at how much fun they had on-board.
For those people who have never been on cruise holidays, companies are now offering ‘taster’ cruises which last for two or three nights, just enough time for people to get their feet wet before going for the real thing! Also, if people interested in cruise holidays actually shop around, many will find fantastic deals and if they book early enough, they can grab a real bargain.
There’s a wide variety of cruise holidays available whether you’re considering river cruises in Germany or wish to test the water with mini cruises to Spain.
