In addition to being the capital of southern Belgium, the historic city of Namur offers an ideal base from which to explore the stunning, on-the-doorstep Ardennes. The internationally acclaimed Gardens of the Chateau d'Annevoie, castles, breweries and underground caves of the Ardennes are all within easy reach of Namur, although the picturesque city shouldn't be overlooked on a tour of Belgium.
Tour Namur
Namur's symbol is the snail and the locals appear to have effectively embraced it. A commendable choice of restaurants and pavement cafes about the town provide perfect opportunities in which to adopt the laid back pace. The Belgian's love for chocolate is evident, featuring in the windows of chic chocolate shops and on the menus in one of the town's eateries. Namur's Citadel is well worth a visit and there's also a perfumery that dates back to the 17th century where visitors can take a look around the underground perfume chambers.
- For shopping, the rue de Fer and the rue de l'Ange are the most visited streets of Belgium after Brussels's rue Neuve!
