Situated in southwest France, the Midi-Pyrenees is the country's largest region and popular with tourists of every kind. Punctuated with archaic towns, castles, Romanesque churches, pistes and hiking trails, the Midi-Pyrenees offer year-round activities, most of them outdoors.
Lourdes is a frequent destination for touring holidays with its steep alleyways, ancient fortress and religious associations. It also makes for a great springboard to the Pyrenees National Park, featuring the impressive Pic du Midi Mountain and the famous Tour de France passes. The market town of Foix and the pilgrimage site Rocamadour are also well-visited destinations. In addition, the region's incredible gastronomy is legendary – foie gras and cassoulet are among the local specialities beckoning to be washed down with the region's superb wine.
