If you're looking to couple one of the most beautiful sights in Scotland with a relaxing holiday, Loch Lomond won't disappoint. Worthy of its immortalisation in poems and songs, this stunning area is part of the 170 square kilometre Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park and is surrounded by hills and forests of green pine, set to a striking mountainous backdrop.
Tour Loch Lomond
Lying between the Firth of Clyde and the Firth of Forth (try that after a few whiskys!), the Loch ranks as the largest body of water in the UK at a sweeping 25 miles long and 5 miles wide, as well as Scotland's biggest loch. It goes without saying that a boat trip on the Loch is a must on any Scottish holiday to the region, allowing a closer look at the Loch's thirty-something islands, most of which are inhabited. Of these, Inchmurrin is the largest and even has a hotel. Varied wildlife is in abundance here, with over 200 species of birds waiting to be spied through a pair of binoculars. In addition, keen walkers and hikers are well catered for with superb hiking trails.
- Take a bracing walk around the loch to take in the towering Ben Lomond.
