Displaying scenery you might expect to find in a novel, it's little wonder that stunning Lake Bled, protectively watched over by its fairytale Castle and the dramatic Julian Alps, scores high on the tourist hit list. Despite its visitors, Bled still retains a traditional feel and is the perfect place in which to enjoy a peaceful holiday.
Tour Bled
Like the Lake, things to do in Bled are of a tranquil nature. Take advantage of the flat land around the lake and opt for a leisurely promenade, or let a horse-drawn carriage do the work for you. For a lesson in local history venture up to the medieval Castle Bled with its interesting museum - once you’re there you may even dine in its terraced restaurant whilst revelling in some of the finest views in town.
- Unless you're a keen swimmer or rower, the best way to reach the Church of Assumption on the lake's island is by pletna, Slovenia's answer to the gondola. If your legs will allow, climb the ninety-nine stairs to the top and ring the famous wishing bell.
- Take advantage of Bled's location and tour further afield. Both the Alps and Slovenia's historic capital Ljubljana are within easy reach.
- Also a stone's throw away are the stunning Triglav Valley and the resort of Kranjska Gora, crammed with natural wonders from glacial valleys and waterfalls to gorges and rushing rivers.
