Killarney is everything you imagine Ireland to be: breathtaking scenery comprised of spectacular lakes, mountains and waterfalls. The town is the undisputed tourist capital of Ireland's South West and it's been a sought-after destination with poets, artists and other creative minds since the Victorian times, so it's something of a veteran.
Tour Killarney
The biggest draw for most on a tour to Killarney is Killarney National Park, the first in Ireland to be granted the status. Its stupendously beautiful 65 square miles is punctuated by three lakes (Lower Lake, Muckross Lake and Upper Lake), enchanting islands and the estates of Muckross and Knockreer. The former's Muckross House is open to the public and is well worth a look on a holiday to Ireland. Outdoors pursuits abound, including boat trips, horse-drawn buggy rides and rowing from Ross Castle to the Monastery on Fallen's Island. Killarney's town centre is just as alive, with plenty of lively pubs, nightlife and festivals throughout the year.
- No Irish holiday would be complete without a browse around Ross Castle, an impressive 15th century stronghold boasting stunning views of Purple Mountain and a noteworthy collection of 16 and 17th century.
