Tourists have been visiting Hardanger's innermost village Eidfjord (pronounced Eyed Fee-ord) for over a hundred years and it's not hard to see why. With plunging waterfalls, lush green mountainsides and green-blue fjords in its geographic line-up, the scenery here is awe-inspiring beyond belief.
Eidfjord is perfect for touring. Sail away on summer boat trips, gently row down the fjord, get closer to nature from the saddle of a bike or admire Norway's largest waterfall, Voringfossen. The village also boasts the Hardangervidda Nature Centre, an art gallery and old church built in 1309 - not bad for somewhere with only 900 occupants.
- Visit the Hæreid plateau situated about twenty minutes away from Eidfjord. Here you'll see some intriguing Viking burial mounds amounting to around 350 graves.
