It's only a small town compared to neighbouring Brighton but Eastbourne still has its attractions for those on a coach tour. An elegant resort at the foot of the South Downs, this decorous town dates from the 1850s and is a charming seaside destination. Home to a sprinkling of high street shops, a south-facing promenade that is backed by lawns and flowerbeds, a centrally located Victorian pier, a miniature railway and the Sovereign harbour marina, Eastbourne has its fair share of places to keep visitors occupied.
Head off on a gentle stroll along Eastbourne's flat promenade or the pebbly beach. Enjoy a meal in The Wish Tower restaurant offering uninterrupted views of the beach, sea and surrounding gardens, or tuck into the seaside staple of Fish n' Chips straight from the wrapper. At night, the lit pier looks simply lovely.
- The nearby town of Jevington is where Banoffi Pie was born in 1972 - put aside some money and come here to try a slice in the very pub where it originated!
