With a name that literally means 'The Gold Coast', it's hardly surprising that Tarragona's Costa Dorada has plenty of sun, or some 200km of sandy coast on which to enjoy it, making it a popular destination for those travelling by escorted coach tour.
While most come here to unwind on a sun-lounger, there are other sights to take in. In the Roman times Costa Dorada was under the rule of Augustus, evidence of which is still dotted about today. In the gardens near the El Mirade beach you'll find an old Roman amphitheatre, once the scene of some gruesome Roman events, or head to the Pont Del Diable, the 'Devil's Bridge' aqueduct.
- For light-hearted fun, take a trip to PortAventura theme park in Salou for jaw-rattling rollercoasters, or simply sitback and enjoy the Fiestaventura, a heart-stopping live show.
- Embrace the healthy Mediterranean diet and enjoy Catalan fresh fish as the day rolls on. Be sure to try out some of the region's local Romesco sauce too!
