With over 2000 years of history to its name, this is the oldest of Germany's cities and currently the fourth largest in the country. Its rich past is seen in its many points of interest including the Roman Tower, which gives an impression of the fortifications previously built around the city; the imposing cathedral, now a world heritage site, which dominates the old city centre; and the more modern Opera House and Theatre.
The pedestrian shopping centre is a bustling area, found in the heart of the city. There are many great restaurants and bars to enjoy after a busy day sightseeing, or alternatively, a boat cruise along the River Rhine is a wonderful and relaxing way in which to fully appreciate the magnificence of city.
