Whether it's culture or cuisine you crave but time is of the essence, city breaks are a quick-fire, perfect way of getting right to the heart of a country and what makes it tick, without the added cost and stops of a touring holiday.

A superb selection of UK, European and Worldwide city breaks by coach, rail or air bring a smorgasbord of world-class destinations within easy reach. City experiences may include eating world-renowned moules overlooking the cobbled streets of Bruges, soaking up the glamour of Paris, bartering for spices among the throngs of Istanbul's Grand Bazaar, drinking Guinness like the Irish in Dublin or being serenaded by a gondolier along the canals of Venice. And let's not forget the likes of London or Edinburgh, where you can shop till you drop or catch a dazzling West End show.

For those who are really can't spare the hours, day trips are also available to many cities within the UK, as well as shorter-throw European destinations like Paris, Bruges and Brussels.

There are so many great locations to be explored on city breaks. Here is a just an idea of the great cities you can visit and what is on offer:

Amsterdam
A popular destination for tourists from across the world, Amsterdam has a vast number of attractions and things to do. Famous for being the home town of Anne Frank, you can visit her house in which she hid from the Nazis during World War II. In addition to that, take a canal cruise to see Amsterdam from a different perspective, or take a visit to the Heineken Experience or the city's numerous museums.

London
With a wealth of attractions and things to do, London is firmly back on the map as a fantastic tourist destination following the success of 2012. With so much to see and do we'd be here all day; visit the historic sites of Westminster Abbey, The Tower of London and St Paul's Cathedral or perhaps indulge in some shopping in Covent Garden or Oxford Street. If you have time why not see a show in the West End.

Paris
Thought to be one of the most romantic cities in the world, Paris is a great destination for a city break. With popular sights like the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and the Champ-Elysees you are bound to full in love with this cosmopolitan city. Perhaps take a cruise on the River Seine or watch the world go by whilst sitting in a  classic French coffee shop.

Bruges
One of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe, Bruges is a fantastic maze of cobbled streets and canals which are perfect to explore. Famous for its production of chocolate, see how many of the 49 chocolate shops you can spot whilst out wandering.

London topped Trip Advisor's Traveller's Choice top cities for 2012, hotly followed by Rome, Paris, Istanbul, Barcelona, Berlin, Florence and Prague.
