It might be a bit smaller than its Riviera neighbour Nice, but you can't accuse Cannes of skimping on exclusivity, expense and glitz. Boosted by the glamorous film stars that descend upon Cannes every May for the International Film Festival, Cannes has its fair share of celebrity abodes, through-the-roof boutique prices and monster, marina hogging yachts.
Despite the fact that it is slightly pricey, Cannes offers three distinct faces, split roughly into that of the seaside promenade La Croisette, the charming old port with its labyrinthine streets and the bustling town centre with its designer shops. Visitors wanting their money to last are better off adopting a look but don't buy policy for the latter.
- Cannes may be overrun by the rich and famous now but they weren't the first to make their mark here: Visit the Musee de la Castre, part of the remains of the medieval castle of the monks of Lerins, for historical culture.
