Bideford's biggest claim to fame is that 'Westward Ho!' author Charles Kingsley based his novel here, and described it as 'little white town'. The town has since taken on more of a pastel appearance and is now a magnet for tourists, especially those looking to explore Lundy Island, although it has another accolade in that it was the third largest port in the 16th century.
Coach holidays to Bideford
Aside from the tree-lined quay, Bideford's landmark is its unmissable 24 arch bridge, which leads to the coastal path and still features some of its original stonework. There is also a handful of traditional pubs and a decent cafe culture to keep visitors entertained on Bideford touring holidays.
