Wedged between Galicia on the west and Cantabria on the east, the Asturias region is famed for its cheese, freely-flowing Sidras (apple wine) and its stretch of Costa Verde dotted with fishing villages and colourful hillside hamlets. Visitors on a touring holiday usually head to capital Oviedo to take in its exquisite churches, or the Picos de Europa national park, while towards the east of Asturias around Llanes can be found a cluster of pre-historic sites, including caves with some excellent paintings.
Bordering Asturias in the South is Castile and Leon, Spain's largest region awash with sights to take in on a coach tour. Burgos boasts some of the most outstanding Cathedrals in the country, whilst Leon with its clutch of historical buildings also has traces of Gaudi architecture outside Barcelona with its Botines House.
